Problem:

Events in a city are hard to find spur of the moment and hard to keep track of with multiple different online calendars, if they are posted online at all.

Solution:

Combine all events under one location that can be searched for and categorized based on preference featuring notification reminders and suggested events.

User Research:

After asking multiple questions to ten diverse individuals, users have provided fairly consistent feedback.

  • Users utilize Facebook Events as their primary resource to find events other than word of mouth.
  • Users find smaller shows, events, and pop-up restaurants are harder to find online.
  • Users have found no efficient way of keeping track of events unless they select “Interested” on a Facebook event.
  • 50% of users are invited to events and the other 50% seek out events to attend.
  • Users have never used online event calendars before such as vapilot.com or downtownnorfolk.org.
  • Users have become annoyed with Facebook Events reminding you about events you were invited to but not interested in and that all local events can't be found in one location.
  • Users have found that the best aspect of Facebook Events is that you can click a link to buy a ticket.
  • Users would use an event calendar more if there was categorization, notifications only to events they are interested in attending and if all local events could be found there.
  • Users would have a more personalized experience if the event calendar suggested events based on prior categories of events that you have attended.
  • Users like that Facebook Events shows which of their friends are going to an event but also want to know a generic number of people to gauge how busy the venue will be.

How it Works:

Omnivent utilizes existing API's and web crawlers to pull online event information from a city and organize it all under one location-based application. Small events are added by local moderators while users have the ability to categorize searches and add your own events to your personal calendar.

Features:

  • Login with Facebook to suggest events based on previous events you attended and see if your friends are going too.
  • Add your own events to your schedule by linking calendars such as your Google Calendar or your own smartphone calendar.
  • Search events in a specified location through your selection of categories.
  • Future event reminders can be set up at your own frequency.
  • Map shows your selected categories within the distance and location that you specified.
  • Events show the number of people that are attending so that you can plan accordingly.

Design:

Omnivent is primarily an event calendar for the spontaneous person or explorer. This app shows you what events are happening today and you have the option of looking for events in the future.

The Omnivent logo is derived from a symbol for the idea of being present and a combination of the map pin marker to indicate your present location.
